High Point Auto Insurance Launches Statewide Safety Initiative

| 22 Jul 2008 | 10:38 AM ET

LINCROFT, N.J., July 22, 2008 /PRNewswire via COMTEX/ -- OnStar by GM Signs On As Founding Partner High Point Auto Insurance today launched a Statewide Safety Initiative, a much-needed, comprehensive program in the state that immediately addresses an ongoing need for safety awareness on our roads. High Point Auto Insurance announces that GM's OnStar is a founding partner.

The need for such an initiative is clear. On May 23rd New Jersey State Police Superintendent Joseph R. Fuentes released statistics on the New Jersey State Police website showing that 207 people have died statewide in traffic-related accidents this year (Jan 1 through May 17, 2008), which is a 17% decrease from last year.

Fuentes stated on their website in a press release that, "The 17% decrease in traffic fatalities is a marked improvement, but the number of deaths is still unacceptable. We need to get to a point where traffic fatalities are an anomaly and not the norm." In the spirit of taking action, High Point's Statewide Safety Initiative is a yearlong initiative encompassing a promotional campaign stressing auto safety and safe driving practices. The Initiative also includes rewarding safe driving practices with discounts on High Point auto insurance.

High Point has a consistent track record of supporting safety awareness and has long been a sponsor of many safety initiatives, including Keep Kids Alive Drive 25(R), a community based program.

To emphasize the need for safety on all levels, High Point has partnered with OnStar, the leading provider of in-vehicle safety services, as its founding partner to offer special benefits and savings to GM drivers with OnStar subscriptions. Active OnStar subscribers will receive a special discount on their auto coverage with High Point, in addition to High Point's industry-leading customer and claims service benefits.

"As an auto insurance company, High Point has a unique insight into issues involving safe driving," said Gerry Wilson, Chairman and CEO High Point Preferred Insurance Company. "Our partnership with OnStar underscores our passion in keeping our customers safe." "We are very pleased to be High Point's founding partner and we are proud to offer our subscribers these savings and additional benefits," said Tony DiSalle, OnStar Vice President, sales, service and marketing.
